About Angus

Angus began his climbing career when he was 12 years old on a rock-climbing course at a small bluff outside the city of Toronto. Since that time he has persistently mastered the many skills required of a mountaineer: rock and ice climbing, cold weather camping, safe travel skills, and excellent self-care skills at high altitude. All are required to climb high and then safely return. As an outdoor educator and guide Angus quietly dreamed of climbing an 8000-m peak in the Himalayas for many years. When the opportunity arose in 2007, he went for it!

"An experienced classroom teacher with many years of working with young people behind him, Angus both knows his audience and knows how to reach them. In a manner that combined just the right balance of self-deprecating humour with a powerful message that we are all capable of more than we think we are, Angus painted a vivid picture of what he saw and experienced and learned on Everest. He was honest and humble and incredibly patient with all the kids’ questions and left them feeling that our dreams are achievable. And he left the kids feeling they were capable of achieving great things."

Rex Taylor, Co-ordinator of Outdoor Education, Greenwood College School

Angus' presentation was exceptionally well received in both the Junior and Senior School at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School. He tailored the content to suit the age range beautifully, effectively sharing his charisma and dedication with the audience.

By wearing his climbing outfit and showing the girls some of the technical climbing equipment they were engaged and attentive, hanging on his every word!"
Judy Ross, Director of External Studies, St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School

"Angus Murray was the keynote speaker and opener for our conference focusing on the theme of "Going beyond your limits." Angus' dinner presentation was perfect - it fit our theme, the visual was great with the commentary; it was motivational and at the same time there were some key points/lessons/steps on teaching our participants on how to go beyond their limits. He was great! It was professional – structured well – good timeline, fit with dinner, ran smoothly. This really was a great highlight of our weekend!"

John Vadeika, Executive Director, Swim Ontario

"Angus Murray really captivated our students because of the energy and the humanity of his Everest presentation. He also successfully weaved in some excellent life lessons in a very vivid and memorable way. The hour flew by for the 700 kids Grades 6 to 12, and they groaned when I called for a last question. Angus also met informally with some keen students afterwards and he made a real connection with them."
