"What better way to kick off a brand new school year than to devote the first few days to a variety of team-building initiatives, interesting challenges, and 'back to school' fun that included an introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program and completion of all the preliminary training requirements. Sarah Wiley and Angus Murray, seasoned outdoor educators from Live Out Loud Adventures provided all of this to our fifty Grade nines at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School (SMLS) in September 2009.
Thanks to the LOLA program, the girls were a well-prepared, cohesive group, ready for their four-day adventurous journey for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at the Bronze level. It was a great start to the school year!

"Although I really felt that my adventure was a personal achievement, it was not without constant reflection of our charitable purpose. At Amani, I had expected to feel empathetic sorrow for these children of the African streets. Instead, I felt that I learned something from them...What I was not expecting in all of the children we saw that day was hope in their eyes, when there is little hope, love in their hearts, when 80% of these children have been sexually abused, a general camaraderie of brothers and sisters. They did not have anything, yet they were happy. The more we have, the more we need and are dissatisfied with what we have. It was not just the waste that made me marvel at the comparison, but the entire lack of social systems that has developed in our western culture. These children and the African people taught me a lesson I hope to carry forever in my heart.
As our journey came to a close, I reflected… I am determined to leave [that] complacency where it now lies and continue to fill my life with adventure. I also hope that the lesson of the people will resonate in all that I do. I need to slow down and appreciate the people in my life. Love and friendship is the key to happiness, not any material possessions. I hope to one day show my family the Africa that filled my heart and returned me a changed person."

Angus Murray - Motivational Speaking
"An experienced classroom teacher with many years of working with young people behind him, Angus both knows his audience and knows how to reach them. In a manner that combined just the right balance of self-deprecating humour with a powerful message that we are all capable of more than we think we are, Angus painted a vivid picture of what he saw and experienced and learned on Everest. He was honest and humble and incredibly patient with all the kids' questions and left them feeling that our dreams are achievable. And he left the kids feeling they were capable of achieving great things."
–Rex Taylor, Co-ordinator of Outdoor Education,
Greenwood College School
"Angus' presentation was exceptionally well received in both the Junior and Senior School at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School. He tailored the content to suit the age range beautifully, effectively sharing his charisma and dedication with the audience. By wearing his climbing outfit and showing the girls some of the technical climbing equipment they were engaged and attentive, hanging on his every word!"

St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School
"Angus Murray was the keynote speaker and opener for our conference focusing on the theme of "Going beyond your limits." Angus' dinner presentation was perfect - it fit our theme, the visual was great with the commentary; it was motivational and at the same time there were some key points/lessons/steps on teaching our participants on how to go beyond their limits. He was great! It was professional - structured well - good timeline, fit with dinner, ran smoothly. This really was a great highlight of our weekend!"
–John Vadeika, Executive Director, Swim Ontario
"Angus Murray really captivated our students because of the energy and the humanity of his Everest presentation. He also successfully weaved in some excellent life lessons in a very vivid and memorable way. The hour flew by for the 700 kids Grades 6 to 12, and they groaned when I called for a last question. Angus also met informally with some keen students afterwards and he made a real connection with them."
